Whitestar General Purpose Cement is a Portland limestone cement supplied in a 25kg plastic bag, manufactured to EN 197-1 and achieving strength class 42.5N. It is suitable for concrete, mortar, render, and screed, and is used across bricklaying and blockwork, foundations and slabs, garden walls, paving bedding, rendering, and general repair work on both domestic and commercial projects.

The 42.5N strength class is the general-purpose standard, and it indicates the compressive strength the cement reaches at 28 days. Manufactured to EN 197-1 from carefully selected raw materials with quality control at each stage, it gives consistent performance from bag to bag, so mixes made weeks apart cure to the same strength and colour — which shows in a finished wall or slab far more than most people expect.

The plastic bag is a practical improvement on paper. It keeps the cement dry in storage and on site, tolerates a rain shower and a damp floor without the contents setting solid, and allows a part-used bag to be resealed and kept for later rather than wasted. For concrete, a common general-purpose mix is one part cement to two parts sharp sand and four parts aggregate; for bricklaying mortar, around one part cement to four or five parts building sand, with lime or plasticiser added for workability. Mix with clean water to a workable consistency and use within the working time.
