Product Description:
Our Treated Sawn C24 Carcassing is a regularised structural timber supplied in 4.8m lengths, pressure treated for durability and graded to C24. Imported from Southern Sweden or homegrown, it is suitable for floor and ceiling joists, rafters and roof timbers, stud walls and partitions, wall plates, decking substructures, and general structural framing on domestic and commercial work.
The C24 grading is the main thing to know about this timber. Strength grades are assigned on the basis of knots, grain, and density, and C24 is the higher of the two common structural grades, spanning meaningfully further than C16 at the same section. That matters when sizing joists and rafters: a specification written to C24 cannot safely be built in C16, so timber graded and marked C24 is what building control and structural calculations will expect to see. Slow-grown Scandinavian softwood is denser and tighter-grained than faster-grown timber, which is why so much C24 stock comes from that region.
Regularising machines the timber to an even 47 x 100mm section from end to end, so joists line through at a consistent depth and boards, plasterboard, or decking fix down flat without packing. Pressure treatment drives preservative deep into the timber under vacuum, protecting against fungal decay and insect attack and allowing use in damp or exposed positions such as decking frames and ground floor joists. The 4.8m length covers longer spans and cuts down efficiently with little waste. Fix with galvanised or stainless nails, screws, and hangers, as the preservative corrodes untreated steel, and treat cut ends with end grain preservative.
