Our 12.5mm Square Edge Vapourshield Plasterboard is a vapour control board with a metallised polyester film bonded to the reverse face. It is used for lining external walls, ceilings, and roof spaces where moisture from inside the building needs to be prevented from passing into the structure, and is commonly specified on timber frame construction, insulated ceilings and roofs, dormers, and warm roof build-ups.

Warm, moist air inside a heated building moves outwards towards colder surfaces, and when it reaches a point cold enough, the moisture it carries condenses. If that happens inside a wall or roof build-up rather than on a visible surface, the result is interstitial condensation — damp insulation, decaying timber, and mould growing out of sight. A vapour control layer blocks that movement at the warm side of the construction, keeping the moisture in the room where ventilation can deal with it.

The board combines that vapour control layer with the plasterboard itself, so one fix does both jobs and there is no separate polythene membrane to install, tape, and detail around. For the layer to work, joints, service penetrations, and the perimeter must be sealed properly, as moisture will find any gap left in the barrier. The square edge profile suits boards that will be skim plastered or where joints are covered. At 2400 x 1200mm, each board covers 2.88m² and fits standard 400mm and 600mm stud and joist centres.
