Our Rectangular Block Paving measures 200 x 100 x 50mm and is supplied in Charcoal, a deep grey-black. It is suitable for driveways, parking areas, pathways, patios, and edging courses across both domestic and commercial projects.

The 200 x 100mm rectangle is the standard block paving size, and its proportions are what make it so versatile. Because the length is exactly twice the width, blocks lay neatly in herringbone at 45 or 90 degrees, in stretcher and basketweave bonds, and as soldier course edging, all from the same pallet. Herringbone is the usual choice for driveways, as the interlocking pattern spreads vehicle loads across many blocks rather than concentrating them on one.

Charcoal suits contemporary houses and modern schemes, where the warm reds of a brindle blend would look dated, and it is particularly effective used as a border or soldier course against a lighter block to frame a drive. Being dark, it hides oil spots, tyre marks, and general staining better than any other colour, which is a genuine advantage on a surface that cars sit on. At 50mm thick, the blocks suit domestic driveways and pedestrian areas, with 60mm and 80mm specified for heavier commercial traffic. The surface gives good slip resistance and the blocks are frost and thaw resistant.

Lay on a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base with a screeded sand or granite dust bedding layer, compact with a vibrating plate fitted with a protective mat, then brush kiln dried sand into the joints to lock the blocks together. Edge restraints are essential — without them the blocks will spread and the paving will fail at the perimeter.
