Our P5 Tongue & Groove Chipboard Flooring is a 22mm moisture-resistant structural flooring panel for suspended timber floors in domestic and light commercial buildings. Machined with a tongue and groove profile on all four edges, it is used on ground and upper floors, loft conversions, extensions, and refurbishment work, in both new build and renovation.

The 22mm thickness is the heavier of the two standard flooring grades, and it is specified where joists are set at 600mm centres rather than 400mm. The wider the span between joists, the more the floor relies on the board itself for stiffness, and 22mm carries that span without the bounce and deflection an 18mm board would show. It also gives a more solid floor underfoot generally, and takes heavier loading in kitchens, utility rooms, and areas with substantial furniture or appliances.

P5 is the load-bearing, moisture-resistant grade, and the improved resin system allows the board to cope with the humidity and occasional wetting that occur before a building is watertight, without the swelling and crumbling edges that affect standard chipboard. It resists damp during construction rather than being waterproof, so the floor still needs drying out and protecting once the roof is on. Glue the tongue and groove joints with PVA, lay the long edges across the joists with end joints staggered, and leave a small expansion gap at the perimeter. Each board covers 1.44m².
