Our P5 Tongue & Groove Chipboard Flooring is a moisture-resistant structural flooring panel for suspended timber floors in domestic and light commercial buildings. Machined with a tongue and groove profile on all four edges, it is used on ground and upper floors, loft conversions, extensions, and refurbishment work, in both new build and renovation.

P5 is the grade that matters on a building site. It is the load-bearing, moisture-resistant specification, and the improved resin system lets the board cope with the humidity and occasional wetting that are unavoidable before a building is watertight, without the swelling and crumbling edges that would ruin standard chipboard. It resists damp during construction rather than being waterproof, so the floor still needs drying out and protecting once the roof is on.

The machined joint is what gives the finished floor its quality. Tongue and groove on all four edges pulls adjoining boards tightly together and transfers load across the joint, so the floor stays flat and quiet rather than developing the flex and squeaks that come from poorly fitted boards. Glue the joints with PVA, lay the long edges across the joists with end joints staggered, and leave a small expansion gap at the perimeter. At 2400 x 600mm each board covers 1.44m² and suits 400mm and 600mm joist centres, cutting with a standard saw and fixing with screws or flooring nails.
