Product Description:
Our Trade Quality MDF is a 9mm engineered board manufactured to a consistent trade specification, suited to joinery, panelling, and interior finishing work. It is used for cabinet backs and drawer bases, wall and ceiling panelling, boxing in pipework and services, door and bulkhead linings, templates, craft and model work, and general light carpentry across domestic and commercial projects.
At 9mm the board is noticeably easier to handle than thicker MDF. It cuts, lifts, and fixes single-handed, adds less weight to a finished cabinet or panel, and takes a shallow routed detail cleanly, which is why it has become the standard thickness for painted wall panelling and fielded door panels. With no grain, knots, or voids running through it, the board cuts the same in any direction and stays flat and square even at this thickness.
Consistency is what trade grade buys you: every sheet behaves identically, and a trade specification holds that from sheet to sheet and delivery to delivery, which matters on repeat work such as a run of panelling. The smooth closed face takes primer and paint with minimal preparation. At 2440 x 1220mm each sheet covers 2.98m². Cut edges are absorbent and should be sealed before painting, and pilot holes are recommended when fixing near an edge, as thinner MDF splits easily there. At 9mm this is a lining and panelling board rather than a load-bearing one, so shelving needs 12mm or thicker, or a frame behind it.
