Product Description:

This box supplies 100 woodscrews at 5.0 x 80mm, a long heavy-gauge screw for structural timber work. It suits joining framing timbers and joists, fixing wall plates, bearers, and trimmers, decking substructures and posts, fence rails, arris rails, and gate framing, shed and workshop construction, and any connection where two substantial timbers need pulling tightly together.

At 80mm the screw is chosen for depth of bite in framing sections. Driving through a 45mm timber it still reaches around 35mm into the piece behind, which is the kind of penetration a load-bearing joint needs, and it covers most stud, joist, and rail connections without protruding through the far side. The 5.0mm gauge gives the shank strength to carry that load and to take the torque of driving a long screw into dense softwood without flexing or shearing.

The screw is built around how it grips. A single thread cuts cleanly into the timber and compresses the fibres as it drives, giving strong pull-out resistance so framing stays tight rather than working loose, while the countersunk head pulls flush into the surface and the reinforced drive recess holds the bit securely under the high torque a screw this length demands. Pilot holes are recommended at this size, particularly in hardwoods and near the ends of timbers, as a 5.0mm screw driven straight into a narrow section will split it.
