Product Description:

This box supplies 100 wood screws at 5.0 x 60mm, a heavy-gauge screw for framing and structural timber work. It suits joining framing timbers and noggins, fixing bearers, battens, and joist trimmers, decking substructures, fence rails and gate framing, shed and workshop construction, and fixing thick boards and sheet material to studwork.

At 60mm the screw makes a proper timber-to-timber connection. Driving through a 22mm board or a 25mm batten it bites some 35mm into the section behind, and through a 45mm framing timber it still reaches 15mm into the piece beyond, which is enough to pull two sections firmly together. The 5.0mm gauge gives the shank strength to carry that load and to take the torque of driving a longer screw without flexing or shearing.

The screw is built around how it grips. A single thread cuts cleanly into the timber and compresses the fibres as it drives, giving strong pull-out resistance so framing stays tight rather than working loose, while the countersunk head pulls flush into the surface and the reinforced drive recess holds the bit securely with less cam-out. Pilot holes are worth drilling in hardwoods and close to ends and edges, as a 5.0mm screw splits narrow timber readily if driven straight in.
