Our Building Sand Bulk Bag is a fine, soft sand supplied in bulk for larger mortar and masonry projects. It is mixed with cement, and lime where required, to make mortar for bricklaying and block laying, pointing and repointing, bedding copings and sills, and general building work, and is used by builders, bricklayers, and DIY installers on both domestic and commercial sites.

The bulk bag is the practical choice once a job moves beyond a few repairs. Building an extension, a garden wall, or a garage takes far more sand than it first appears, and buying in bulk works out considerably cheaper per tonne than 25kg bags, with less packaging to dispose of and no running out halfway through a course. Having one consistent batch on site also keeps the mortar colour even across the whole wall, which is easily lost when sand is bought in smaller lots from different deliveries.

The fine, rounded grains give mortar a smooth, plastic consistency that spreads easily on the trowel and holds well on the face of a brick. As a general guide, most brickwork uses around four to five parts sand to one part cement, with lime or plasticiser added for workability. Each bulk bag contains approximately 850kg — enough for a substantial run of brickwork — and should be stored on a firm, level surface and covered to keep the sand clean and dry.
