Our P5 Tongue & Groove Chipboard Flooring is a moisture-resistant structural flooring panel designed for suspended timber floors in domestic and light commercial buildings. Manufactured to P5 grade and machined with a tongue and groove profile on all four edges, it is suitable for ground and upper floors, loft conversions, extensions, and refurbishment work, and is used across both new build and renovation projects.

P5 is the load-bearing, moisture-resistant grade of chipboard flooring, and the distinction matters on site. The improved resin system allows the board to tolerate the humid conditions and occasional wetting that occur before a building is watertight, without the swelling and edge damage that would affect standard chipboard. It is a resistance to short-term damp during construction rather than a waterproof board, so it should be dried out and protected once the roof is on.

The machined tongue and groove joint pulls adjoining boards tightly together, spreading load across the joint and reducing the movement and squeaking that develops in a poorly fitted floor. Joints should be glued with a PVA wood adhesive and the boards laid with the long edges running across the joists, staggered so that end joints do not line up, with a small expansion gap left at the perimeter. At 2400 x 600mm, each board covers 1.44m² and suits standard 400mm and 600mm joist centres, and boards can be cut with a standard saw and fixed with screws or flooring nails.
