Product Description:

This box supplies 200 woodscrews at 4.0 x 60mm, a longer general-purpose screw for framing and heavier fixing work. It suits fixing noggins and blocking between studs, assembling stud frames and timber structures, fixing battens and counter battens, putting up heavy shelving and wall-mounted units, shed and workshop construction, trellis and garden framing, and fixing thicker boards to timber.

At 60mm the screw is long enough to make a proper timber-to-timber connection rather than just a surface fixing. Driving through a 22mm board or a 25mm batten, it still bites some 35mm into the section behind, which is what holds a joint tight under load. The 4.0mm gauge suits this length well in softwood framing, carrying a good load while remaining fine enough to reduce the risk of splitting compared with a 5.0mm screw, particularly when fixing near the end of a timber.

The screw is built around how it grips. A single thread cuts cleanly into the timber and compresses the fibres as it drives, giving good pull-out resistance so framing stays tight, while the countersunk head pulls flush into the surface of a board and the reinforced drive recess holds the bit securely with less cam-out. Pilot holes are worth drilling in hardwoods and close to ends and edges, where driving straight in can split the timber.
