This box supplies 200 woodscrews at 4.0 x 40mm, a general-purpose screw with enough gauge and length for everyday joinery and light construction work. It suits fixing skirting, architrave, and trim, hanging doors and fitting heavy ironmongery, putting up shelving and wall brackets, fixing plywood, MDF, and boarding to battens and studwork, assembling frames and carcasses, and general carpentry and repair work.

At 40mm the screw gives proper structural grip in light timber work. Fixing through an 18mm board it drives over 20mm into the batten or stud behind, which is what keeps shelving, trim, and panelling tight rather than gradually pulling loose, and it holds a heavier bracket or hinge securely without being long enough to break through standard framing. The 4.0mm gauge carries more load than the equivalent 3.5mm and holds far better in chipboard and MDF, where finer screws can strip out.

The screw is built around how it grips. A single thread cuts cleanly into the timber and compresses the fibres as it drives, giving good pull-out resistance, while the countersunk head pulls flush into the face of a board ready for filling and painting, and the reinforced drive recess holds the bit securely with less cam-out. Pilot holes are worth drilling in hardwoods and close to ends and edges, where driving straight in can split the timber.
