Product Description:

Growtivation Weedtex is a woven polypropylene weed control fabric supplied in a 1m x 15m roll, covering 15m². It is laid beneath gravel, slate, and bark to suppress weed growth in borders, beds, pathways, and decorative areas, and is also used under decking, sheds, and garden buildings, and as a separation layer between soil and aggregate.

The fabric works by blocking light. Weed seeds in the soil need daylight to germinate, and a covered bed keeps them dormant, while the woven structure is dense enough to stop established weeds pushing up from below. Unlike plastic sheeting, it remains permeable, so rain and liquid feed pass through to the soil and plant roots below rather than pooling on the surface, and air continues to reach the ground so the soil stays healthy.

Laid under gravel or slate, it also stops the aggregate working down into the soil, which is what causes a decorative surface to thin out and need topping up every year or two. To lay, clear the area of existing weeds and level the ground, roll out the fabric with overlaps of around 100mm at the joints, and secure with ground pegs. Cut cross slits to plant through where the fabric runs over a planted bed, then cover with gravel, bark, or slate. The 1m width suits borders, pathways, and narrow beds, and cuts easily with scissors or a knife.
