Product Description:

The Irwin Jack 880 UN Universal Hand Saw is a 550mm hardpoint saw designed for general cutting across a wide range of materials. It handles softwood and hardwood, plywood, MDF, chipboard, OSB, and most man-made boards, making it a practical single saw for site carpentry, joinery, workshop use, and DIY work around the house and garden.

The universal tooth pattern is what gives the saw its range. Rather than being optimised solely for cutting along the grain or across it, the teeth are ground to cut acceptably in both directions and to cope with the abrasive resins in manufactured boards, which blunt a conventional saw quickly. That makes it the sensible choice for anyone wanting one saw in the van or the toolbox rather than a rip saw and a crosscut saw kept separately.

The teeth are hardpoint, induction hardened so they stay sharp far longer than traditional saw teeth, though they cannot be resharpened once worn — the saw is used until it is spent and then replaced. The coated blade reduces friction as it passes through the cut, so the saw runs more easily and is less prone to binding in damp or resinous timber, and the coating also helps protect the blade against rust in storage. At 550mm, the blade length suits general carpentry and larger sections, giving a long, efficient stroke.
