The Faithfull All Steel Taper Shovel is a general-purpose site shovel with a tapered mouth, designed to handle both loose material and lighter digging. It is used for shovelling soil, sand, gravel, and aggregate, backfilling trenches, loading wheelbarrows and skips, digging out loose or previously disturbed ground, and general clearing and groundworks.

The tapered blade is what sets it apart from a square shovel. The mouth narrows towards the front edge, which lets it drive into a heap of stone or compacted spoil far more easily than a flat, square blade, while the raised sides help keep material on the shovel as it is lifted and thrown. That makes it the more versatile of the two: better at getting into a pile of aggregate or loosened soil, and able to take on light digging that a square shovel cannot, while still carrying a good load with each lift.

The all-steel construction is built for heavy, daily use on site. With a steel shaft as well as a steel blade, there is no wooden handle to split, rot, or snap under load, and no joint between blade and shaft to loosen over time. It stands up to being left outdoors and to the abrasive wear of sand and stone. Where the job is mainly scraping and scooping from a flat surface or mixing on a board, the square shovel is the better choice; where the work is digging into heaps and moving mixed material, the taper shovel is the one most trades reach for first.
