The Faithfull All Steel Grafting Shovel is a long-bladed digging tool designed for breaking into heavy, compacted ground. It is used for digging trenches for drains, cables, and pipes, excavating footings and post holes, cutting through heavy clay, and general groundworks, and is a long-standing favourite with groundworkers, drainage contractors, and landscapers working on difficult soil.

The grafting shovel takes its name from "graft", the traditional term for a single spade-depth cut of soil, and the blade is shaped for exactly that job. Long and slightly dished, it slices deep into heavy ground and lifts out a solid block of earth in one go, with the curve of the blade holding the soil as it is raised rather than letting it fall back into the trench. That makes it particularly effective in clay, where a flat spade tends to stick and a narrow draining shovel removes less material per cut.

The all-steel construction is built for the leverage that heavy ground demands. With a steel shaft as well as a steel blade, there is no wooden handle to split, rot, or snap when prising out a stubborn cut, and no weak joint between blade and shaft to loosen over time. It stands up to being left outdoors and to heavy daily use on site. Paired with a draining shovel, it covers most trenching work: the grafting shovel to open the ground and move the bulk of the soil, the draining shovel to trim the sides and clean the bottom of the trench.
