Our 12mm Standard MDF is a versatile engineered board suited to a wide range of joinery, furniture, and interior finishing work. Manufactured by bonding fine wood fibres with resin under heat and pressure, it is ideal for cabinet carcasses, shelving, wardrobe interiors, panelling, door linings, boxing in, and general carpentry in both domestic and commercial settings.

Unlike solid timber, MDF has no grain, knots, or voids running through it, giving a board of even density from face to face and edge to edge. It cuts cleanly in any direction, routs and shapes well for moulded edges and detailed profiles, and holds its shape without twisting or splitting, making it a dependable choice for precise, repeatable work. The 12mm thickness offers a practical balance between rigidity and weight, suiting panels, drawer bases, cabinet backs, and shelving over shorter spans.

The smooth, closed face needs very little preparation before painting and takes primer, paint, and veneer evenly, allowing for anything from a flat contemporary finish to traditional moulded detail. At 2440 x 1220mm, each sheet covers 2.98m² and can be worked with standard tools and fixings. Cut edges are more absorbent than the face and should be sealed or primed before painting, and pilot holes are recommended when screwing near an edge to avoid splitting the board.

Always wear appropriate eye and respiratory protection when cutting, routing, or sanding MDF.
