Product Description:

This box supplies 100 wood screws at 5.0 x 70mm, a long heavy-gauge screw for framing and structural timber work. It suits joining studs, noggins, and wall plates, fixing bearers and joist trimmers, decking substructures and posts, fence rails and gate framing, shed and workshop construction, and any connection where two substantial timbers need pulling firmly together.

At 70mm the screw is squarely a framing fixing. Driving through a 45mm timber it reaches around 25mm into the section behind, and through a 22mm board it bites nearly 50mm, giving the penetration a load-bearing joint needs to hold rather than gradually working apart. The 5.0mm gauge provides the shank strength to carry that load and to withstand the torque of driving a long screw into dense softwood without flexing or shearing.

The screw is built around how it grips. A single thread cuts cleanly into the timber and compresses the fibres as it drives, giving strong pull-out resistance so structural joints stay tight over time, while the countersunk head pulls flush into the surface and the reinforced drive recess holds the bit securely under the higher torque a long screw demands. Pilot holes are recommended at this length, particularly in hardwoods and near the ends of timbers, as a 5.0mm screw driven straight into a narrow section will split it.
