Product Description:

This box supplies 200 woodscrews at 4.0 x 70mm, a long general-purpose screw for framing and structural timber work. It suits fixing studs, noggins, and wall plates, assembling timber frames and garden structures, fixing thicker battens and bearers, shed and workshop construction, fence rails and trellis framing, and joining timber sections where a shorter screw would not reach far enough into the second piece.

At 70mm the screw is into framing territory. Fixing through a 45mm timber it still drives around 25mm into the section behind, and through a 22mm board it reaches nearly 50mm, giving the penetration a load-bearing joint needs to stay tight rather than gradually pulling apart. The 4.0mm gauge keeps the screw slightly finer than a 5.0mm at comparable lengths, which reduces splitting in softwood framing while still carrying a substantial load.

The screw is built around how it grips. A single thread cuts cleanly into the timber and compresses the fibres as it drives, giving good pull-out resistance so framing stays tight over time, while the countersunk head pulls flush into the surface and the reinforced drive recess holds the bit securely with less cam-out at the higher torque a long screw demands. Pilot holes are worth drilling in hardwoods and close to ends and edges.
