Our Insulated Plasterboard is a composite board combining 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard bonded to 60mm of PIR insulation, giving a total thickness of 72.5mm. It is used for insulating and lining solid walls internally, upgrading cold external walls in older and non-cavity properties, insulating dormers, ceilings, and room-in-roof spaces, and for garage and outbuilding conversions being brought up to habitable standard.

An insulated board does two jobs in one fix. Rather than battening a wall, fitting insulation between the battens, and boarding over the top, the board goes straight onto the wall and the room is insulated and ready to skim in a single operation. At 60mm of PIR, this is one of the higher specifications in the range and is generally chosen where a specific U-value has to be met, such as on a garage conversion, a change of use, or building control work, rather than where a general improvement in comfort is the aim.

At 2400 x 1200mm, each board covers 2.88m² and the tapered edge allows joints to be taped and filled flush or skim plastered as preferred. Boards can be fixed with drywall adhesive dabs or mechanically with insulated plasterboard fixings, depending on the substrate and its condition. At 72.5mm, the depth needs planning for: sockets, switches, radiators, window reveals, skirting, and door linings all move forward with the new wall face, and boards of this thickness are heavier and more awkward to handle, so a two-person lift is sensible.
