Product Description:

Longrake Black Basalt is a decorative volcanic rock aggregate in deep black and charcoal tones, supplied in a bulk bag. The 14mm size suits garden borders and flower beds, pathways, driveways and parking areas, rockeries, pot toppings, water features, and contemporary landscaping across domestic and commercial projects.

Basalt is a volcanic rock and one of the hardest aggregates available, which is what separates it from the limestone and slate options in the decorative range. It resists crushing and wear, holds its edges and colour rather than breaking down or dulling, and stands up to vehicle traffic, making it one of the few aggregates that works equally well as a decorative stone and as a driveway surface. The black colouring is natural to the rock rather than coated or dyed, so it will not fade or wash out.

Dark aggregate is also the easiest to live with. Leaf litter, dirt, oil marks, and algae show immediately on pale stone but barely register on black, so a basalt drive or bed holds its appearance for far longer with less upkeep, and the colour deepens to a near-glossy black when wet. Supplied in a bulk bag, a depth of around 40mm is usually sufficient for beds and borders, with 50mm or more over a compacted base for driveways, laid over a weed membrane. Coverage will vary with depth.
