Product Description:
Our 22 x 150mm Green Treated Featheredge Board is a pressure treated softwood board designed for closeboard and feather edge fencing. Tapered across its width from 22mm at the thick edge down to a thin edge, it is used for garden boundary fencing, screening, gates, and agricultural and stock fencing, and is equally suited to building a new run from scratch or replacing damaged boards in an existing fence.
The tapered profile is what makes featheredge fencing so effective. Boards are fixed vertically with the thin edge of each board overlapping the thick edge of the one before, creating a continuous, gap-free barrier that gives complete privacy while allowing the timber to move naturally with changes in weather. Built board by board onto arris rails rather than supplied as a panel, a closeboard fence is considerably stronger than panel fencing, stands up better to wind on exposed boundaries, and can be repaired one board at a time rather than replaced as a whole section.
Each board is pressure treated with preservative forced deep into the timber under vacuum, protecting against rot, fungal decay, and insect attack, and giving the board its initial green tint that weathers to a soft silver-grey over time. With a typical overlap of 25mm to 50mm, each 150mm board covers around 100mm to 125mm of fence run, so allow roughly 8 to 10 boards per metre depending on the overlap used. Fix with two galvanised nails or screws per rail, and treat any cut ends with end grain preservative to maintain protection.
