Product Description:

This box supplies 200 woodscrews at 5.0 x 40mm, a short screw in a heavy gauge for fixings that carry load over a limited depth. It suits fitting heavy hinges, gate and shed ironmongery, brackets and hangers, fixing bearers, cleats, and blocking, attaching heavy-duty fittings to framing, fixing thick boards and sheet material to battens, and general repair work where a fixing needs to hold firmly.

At 40mm the screw gives useful penetration without being long enough to break through standard framing sections. Fixing through a bracket or a thin board it drives a solid depth into the timber behind, and the 5.0mm gauge puts far more thread into contact with the wood than a 3.5mm or 4.0mm screw of the same length, so the joint holds under real load. It is also the more reliable choice in chipboard and MDF, where finer screws are prone to stripping out.

The screw is built around how it grips. A single thread cuts cleanly into the timber and compresses the fibres as it drives, giving strong pull-out resistance, while the countersunk head pulls flush into the surface of a bracket or board and the reinforced drive recess holds the bit securely with less cam-out. Pilot holes are worth drilling in hardwoods and close to ends and edges, as a 5.0mm screw splits narrow timber readily if driven straight in.
