The 12.5mm thickness is the standard specification for most internal walls and ceilings, offering a good level of impact resistance along with basic fire protection and a useful reduction in sound transfer between rooms. Manufactured to give a consistent, flat surface, it accepts skim plaster, jointing compound, and direct decoration without difficulty, making it a reliable choice for builders, plasterers, and DIY installers alike.

The tapered edge profile features a shallow recess along the long edges of the board. When two boards are butted together, this recess creates a channel for jointing tape and filler, allowing joints to be finished flush with the board face without a visible ridge. This makes tapered edge the preferred option for taped-and-jointed work and for areas that will be painted or papered directly, while remaining equally suitable for a full skim finish.
