Product Description:

Longrake Black Basalt is a decorative volcanic rock aggregate in deep black and charcoal tones, supplied in a 20kg bag. The 14mm size suits borders and flower beds, planters and pot toppings, rockeries, water features, pathways, and contemporary landscaping schemes.

Basalt is a volcanic rock and one of the hardest aggregates available, considerably more durable than the limestone chippings that make up much of the decorative range. It resists crushing and wear, holds its sharp edges and colour rather than breaking down or dulling, and the black colouring is natural to the rock rather than coated or dyed, so it will not fade or wash out over time. The colour deepens to a near-glossy black when wet.

Dark aggregate is also the most forgiving to live with. Leaf litter, dirt, and algae mark pale stone within a season but barely register on black, so the surface keeps its appearance with far less attention. Against pale paving, light render, and green planting it gives the strongest contrast available, which is why black basalt has become a mainstay of contemporary garden design. At 20kg, the bag suits borders, containers, and topping up, can be carried and poured by one person, and lets customers try the colour before committing to more. A depth of around 40mm is usually enough for decorative use, laid over a weed membrane.
