Longrake Charcoal Slate is a natural slate chipping in deep charcoal grey tones, supplied in a bulk bag. The 40mm size suits garden borders and flower beds, rockeries, pathways, water features, pot toppings, and contemporary landscaping schemes across domestic and commercial projects.

Slate lies differently from rounded gravel. The chippings are flat and plate-like, so they settle into overlapping layers that give good coverage for the volume used and knit into a close, even surface. Over a weed membrane, those layers block light from the soil beneath and keep weed growth down while still letting water drain through freely. The colour darkens noticeably when wet, taking the surface from dry charcoal to an almost black sheen after rain.

Charcoal is the most neutral of the slate colours — a straight dark grey without the plum and purple tones of blue slate or the softness of green. That makes it the easiest to pair with grey porcelain and paving, contemporary planting schemes, and modern render and cladding, where it reads as a deliberate dark surface rather than a coloured one. It also hides dirt, leaf litter, and organic staining far better than pale aggregates, so it holds its appearance with little attention. At 40mm the pieces are large and bold, suiting wider beds and larger areas rather than containers. A depth of around 40mm to 50mm is usually sufficient. Slate is not suitable for driveways, as the flat pieces fracture under vehicle weight.
