Product Description:

Longrake Blue Slate is a natural slate chipping in deep blue-grey tones shot through with plum and purple, supplied in a 20kg handy bag. The 20mm size suits borders and flower beds, planters and pot toppings, rockeries, water features, and decorative dressing around patios, paths, and garden features.

What sets slate apart from gravel is its shape. Each piece is flat and plate-like, so the chippings lie down in overlapping layers rather than sitting loose, covering more ground for the volume used and settling into a close, even surface. Over a weed membrane, those layers block light from the soil beneath and keep weeds down while letting rain drain straight through. The colour is quarried rather than applied, and it deepens strikingly when wet, which is why slate is such a common choice around ponds, rills, and water features.

The 20mm grade gives a finer, neater finish than the larger 40mm, which makes it the better size for containers, narrow borders, and smaller feature areas. At 20kg the bag can be carried and poured by one person, fits in a car boot, and stores easily, making it well suited to one-off dressing jobs and topping up where slate has settled over time. Around 40mm depth is usually enough for decorative work. Larger areas are more economical in a bulk bag.
