Product Description:
Our 40mm Slate Chippings are a natural decorative aggregate supplied in flat, angular pieces with the deep colour and texture that only quarried slate gives. Suitable for garden borders, flower beds, rockeries, pathways, pot toppings, water features, and general decorative landscaping, they are a popular finish across both domestic and commercial planting schemes.
The flat, plate-like shape is what distinguishes slate from rounded gravels. Rather than sitting loose, the chippings settle into overlapping layers that knit together into a close, stable surface, giving good coverage for the volume used and holding their position well on level ground. The colour deepens noticeably when wet, so the surface shifts in tone through the day and after rain, and laid over a weed membrane the overlapping layers block light from the soil beneath and keep weed growth down while still letting water drain through.
