Our 12.5mm Square Edge Moisture Resistant Plasterboard is a water-repellent building board designed for use in humid and damp-prone interiors. Manufactured with a water-repellent additive through the gypsum core and moisture-resistant paper liners, it is suitable for bathrooms, shower rooms, en-suites, kitchens, utility rooms, cloakrooms, and as a substrate for tiling in both residential and commercial buildings.

Standard plasterboard absorbs moisture readily, and in a bathroom or kitchen that leads to softening, bulging, and eventual failure of the board, particularly behind tiles and around baths and showers. The water-repellent additive slows that absorption considerably, allowing the board to cope with the humidity, steam, and condensation these rooms produce without breaking down. It is a resistance to moisture in the air rather than a waterproof board, so it should not be used where it will be in direct or persistent contact with water — a tanking system or cement board is needed inside a shower enclosure.

The square edge profile suits boards that will be skim plastered or tiled over directly, which covers most bathroom and kitchen work, and where joints are covered by battens or trim. It does not have the tapered recess needed for a flush taped-and-jointed finish. At 2400 x 1200mm, each board covers 2.88m² and fits standard 400mm and 600mm stud and joist centres. Follow the board manufacturer's guidance on fixing centres and maximum tile weight before tiling.
