The 20mm size suits garden borders and beds, pathways, driveways and parking areas, contemporary landscaping schemes, pot toppings, water features, and general ground cover across domestic and commercial projects.

Black Ice is one of the most striking decorative aggregates available, and the appeal is the contrast it creates. Against pale paving, light render, and green planting, a dark aggregate sharpens the whole scheme and makes everything around it read more clearly, which is why it has become a standard choice in contemporary garden design. The colour intensifies dramatically when wet, going from charcoal to a deep, glossy black after rain.

The practical advantage is that dark stone hides what pale stone displays. Dirt, organic staining, leaf litter, and general weathering show immediately on cream and buff aggregates but go largely unnoticed on black, so the surface keeps its appearance for far longer with less attention. At 20mm the stones are large enough to knit together and stay put under wheel traffic, which suits driveways as well as decorative areas. Supplied in a bulk bag, a depth of around 40mm to 50mm is usually sufficient for beds and borders, with 50mm or more over a compacted base for driveways, laid over a weed membrane.
