Product Description:

This box supplies 200 woodscrews at 4.0 x 20mm, a short screw with a slightly heavier gauge for light fixing and assembly work. It suits fitting hinges, catches, handles, and ironmongery, fixing thin plywood, hardboard, and panel backs, attaching brackets and fittings to cabinets and furniture, and general repair work around the house and workshop.

At 20mm the screw gives a little more thread engagement than a 16mm while still being short enough to stay within a standard board or door stile without breaking through. That small difference matters on fittings taking regular use, such as hinges on a frequently opened door, where the extra grip keeps the fixing tight for longer. The 4.0mm diameter has more holding power than the equivalent 3.5mm, making it the better choice in chipboard, MDF, and softer materials where a finer screw can strip out under load.

The screw is built around how it grips. A single thread cuts cleanly into the timber and compresses the fibres as it drives, giving good holding power for its length, while the countersunk head pulls flush into the surface of a hinge plate, bracket, or board, and the reinforced drive recess holds the bit securely with less cam-out. Pilot holes are worth drilling in hardwoods and close to edges, as the heavier gauge splits thin timber more readily than a 3.5mm screw.
