Our DPC Polythene is a flexible damp proof course supplied in a 100mm x 30m roll, laid within masonry walls to stop moisture rising from the ground into the brickwork and blockwork above. The 100mm width suits single-leaf walls in 100mm blockwork and standard brickwork, as well as the inner and outer leaves of cavity walls, and it is used on extensions, garages, garden walls, outbuildings, and new build work.

Brick, block, and mortar all draw moisture upwards from the ground by capillary action, and without a barrier that moisture rises through the wall, causing rising damp, damaged plaster, decayed timber, and salt staining on internal finishes. A damp proof course breaks that path. Laid in a mortar joint at least 150mm above external ground level, it forms a continuous barrier across the full width of the wall so that nothing below it can wick into the masonry above.

Polythene DPC is lightweight, easy to cut with a knife, and quick to lay, unrolling straight onto a fresh mortar bed with the next course laid directly on top. It should be the full width of the leaf it is protecting, with joints and corners lapped by at least 100mm, and it must link with the damp proof membrane in the floor so that there is no gap in the protection where wall meets slab. Do not allow the DPC to be bridged by render, pointing, or raised ground levels outside, as this lets moisture bypass it entirely.
