Our Blue Perforated 65mm Brick is a smooth-faced clay engineering brick, fired at a higher temperature than standard facing bricks to give greater density, strength, and resistance to water. Designed for structural and below-ground work, it is used for foundations and footings, damp proof courses, manholes and inspection chambers, retaining walls, sewer and drainage work, and any area of brickwork exposed to heavy loading, persistent damp, or frost.

The higher firing temperature is what gives engineering bricks their performance. It vitrifies the clay into a dense, hard body with a water absorption of just 7%, far lower than most facing bricks, so the brick takes up very little moisture and resists frost damage, salt attack, and weathering in the harshest positions. That low absorption is also why engineering bricks are laid as a damp proof course: two courses at the base of a wall form a barrier that stops ground moisture rising into the brickwork above.

The perforations run through the body of the brick, reducing its weight for easier handling and laying while allowing mortar to key into the holes for a stronger bond. At 65mm, it is the standard UK brick height and courses in with conventional brickwork. The smooth blue face gives a clean, uniform appearance that suits exposed plinths, copings, and industrial-style work as well as buried structural applications.
