Our 5ft Closeboard Vertical Fence Panel is a heavy-duty pressure treated panel built from overlapping vertical featheredge boards fixed to a framed, braced backing. At 5ft high it gives a good level of privacy to side and rear garden boundaries while sitting below the height of a full 6ft fence, making it a practical choice where light needs to reach a garden or where a boundary runs alongside a neighbour's planting.

Closeboard is the strongest panel construction commonly available, and the difference becomes more important as height increases. The tapered featheredge boards are fixed individually onto horizontal rails, overlapping to give a solid, gap-free face, while the heavier timber sections and braced frame resist the wind loading that causes lighter lapped panels to flex and blow out. Individual boards can be replaced if damaged, rather than swapping out a whole section, which keeps the long-term cost of a closeboard run down.

The panel is pressure treated throughout, with preservative driven into the timber under vacuum to protect against rot, fungal decay, and insect attack. It is designed to be fitted between timber or concrete posts, and pairs with 100 x 100mm treated posts and gravel boards for a complete boundary run. We recommend waiting around six months before painting or staining a pressure treated panel, as the timber needs time to dry out from its core before it will take a finish properly.
