It sets limits on both compressive strength and water absorption, with Class B bricks absorbing no more than 7% of their weight in water. That low absorption means the brick takes up very little moisture from wet ground or driving rain, resisting frost damage, salt attack, and the gradual breakdown that affects softer facing bricks in exposed positions.
