The water-repellent additive slows that absorption considerably, allowing the board to cope with the humidity, steam, and condensation these rooms produce without breaking down. It is a resistance to moisture in the air rather than a waterproof board, so it should not be used where it will be in direct or persistent contact with water — a tanking system or cement board is needed inside a shower enclosure.

The square edge profile suits boards that will be skim plastered or tiled over directly, which covers most bathroom and kitchen work, and where joints are covered by battens or trim. As the gypsum core is heated, the fibres hold it together rather than allowing it to crack and fall away, maintaining the integrity of the wall or ceiling for longer and giving occupants more time to escape. This makes it a common specification for garage ceilings and walls where a garage adjoins living accommodation, for separating walls between dwellings, and for any element where a rated fire construction is called for. The 15mm thickness also gives useful additional impact resistance and sound reduction compared with a standard 12.5mm board.

The tapered edge profile features a shallow recess along the long edges of the board, creating a channel for jointing tape and filler so that joints finish flush with the board face. This makes it suitable for both taped-and-jointed work and a full skim finish. At 2400 x 1200mm, each board covers 2.88m² and fits standard 400mm and 600mm stud and joist centres. The board is heavier than standard 12.5mm plasterboard, so a two-person lift is recommended, particularly for ceiling work.

Image shown for illustrative purposes. At 2400 x 1200mm, each board covers 2.88m² and fits standard 400mm and 600mm stud and joist centres. Boards can be cut with a plasterboard saw or scored and snapped, and fixed using drywall screws or nails.

Specification:

Depth

12.5mm

Edge Type

Square Edge

Length

2400mm

Length - Imperial

8ft

Thickness

12.5mm

Width

1200mm

Width - Imperial

4ft

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1016/7759/6999/files/12.5mm_Tapered_Edge_Plasterboard_12.5_x_2400_x_1200mm.jpg?v=1791879305
